Rule 63 Exchange 2021
Hello and thanks for checking out my small collection of additional prompts for the Rule 63 exchange!
Character Was Always A Different Gender is such a long-beloved AU of mine that I'm open to seeing any sort of take on it and as such my prompts are pretty sparse and ramble-y. Whatever you have to offer will be delightful, I am sure!
As usual I do not have a tonal preference for this exchange as long as dark, sad, or horrifying content stays in line with the tone of canon. So please, nothing too bleak for The Secret Garden or Frozen.
All my requests for this exchange are Always A 63. I've requested G ratings only except in the cases of LD+R, PotC, and Set It Off, where I have requested G and E ratings.

Always-A-63 Name Likes:
-In this exchange I'd like always-NB R63 characters to keep their canon names.
-For M—>F swaps I generally prefer for F!characters to keep their canon M!name (but I won't, like, be mad or anything if you change it) and for F—>M swaps I have no preference.
-If you do change a binary 63'd character's name, I would prefer a name with a similar meaning to the canon name and/or that "feels" right for the character and setting over a name that sounds as similar as possible (so I'd prefer something like William "Will" Turner—>Margaret "Maggie" Turner over William—>Wilhelmina). Have fun with it!

-any type of real-life societal prejudice being written into a fantasy/sci-fi setting where it doesn’t exist in canon

FMA (BH/manga)
F!Scar & F!Scar's Brother, F!Scar & None, Mei Chang & F!Scar, NB!Riza Hawkeye & None, NB!Scar & None
Fandom DNW: Please don't give Scar a name.
F!Scar & F!Scar's Brother, F!Scar & None, Mei Chang & F!Scar
No specific prompts for these… I'd be perfectly happy with a beat-for-beat canon scene rewrite featuring F!Scar. I do love how in canon there are these delicate little parallels implied between Mei and Scar, especially when she loses Xiao Mei and is talking about how her clan is the smallest and weakest and Xiao Mei was the only one who was there for her, and I would love to see those parallels enhanced by Scar now being a woman. As far as F!Scar & F!Scarbro goes I'm always here for complex sister relationships, and I cannot lie, I am very thirsty over the idea of both F!Scar and F!Scarbro so that… helps. Finally, if you write something focused on F!Scar in general, I'm always curious about more Ishval worldbuilding and what the process of becoming a warrior priest is like (something I assume women can do as well as men, at least that's what seems to be implied by Shan's whole existence), or anything related to Scar's post-Briggs and post-character-development road trip, gathering the other Ishvalans together in anticipation of the Promised Day. It would also be nice to see F!Scar's relationship with her master (now mistress? or not?).
OK to reference ships: F!Scar/F!Marcoh, F!Scar/F!Miles, F!Scar/OFCs
NB!Riza Hawkeye & None, NB!Scar & None
I'm just generally interested in seeing a nonbinary interpretation of these characters, either transmasculine or transfeminine. I'm less interested in angst or worrying about queerbashing or the coming-out process or choosing pronouns, and more interested in anything related to introspection or presentation or the growth of personal self-knowledge, plus how this might change or enhance these characters' arcs. A different take on why Riza decides to cut her hair again post-canon? The interplay between how Riza, as a child, is seen as the alchemist's daughter vs. how she sees herself? A new take on the canon line about Riza needing to become "Riza Hawkeye as an individual"? Worldbuilding where GNC and genderqueer people are seen, in Ishval, as being chosen by God and called to priesthood? Scar growing to understand himself and his relationships more in this context, either pre-canon as a child/teen or during canon as a young adult… or even post-canon, after everything has started to settle down? (If we matched on NB!Scar I'm a little more open to a story about navigating outside perceptions of gender identity and presentation, since so much of Scar's storyline is already about the Ishval-Amestris interplay, and Amestrian perceptions of Ishval.)
Frozen
Elsa/F!Hans (Frozen), Kristoff/M!Anna (Frozen)
Not gonna lie, both ships in this request are inspired primarily by a single tumblr post, located here.
No need to incorporate the specific names or circumstances elaborated on in the post (though I would dearly love it if you did) — but the general concepts, of F!Hans being the eldest of 12 younger brothers and desperate to prove herself worthy to inherit as her kingdom doesn't deem women legitimate heirs, vs. Kristoff being this happy-go-lucky gay dude raised in the woods by either a bunch of gay ice block cutters or a bunch of queer trolls and suddenly appearing to open M!Anna's eyes to what all is out there, when M!Anna was previously trying to get himself excited about a romance with F!Hans because that felt like what he was "supposed" to do, are just magical.
Or, feel free to go with your own take!
A much appreciated bonus would be any older-sister-younger-brother interactions between Elsa and M!Anna.
The Locked Tomb
NB!Harrowhark Nonagesimus & None, NB!Silas Octakiseron & None, Abigail Pent/F!Magnus Quinn, M!Camilla Hect/Palamedes Sextus, M!Camilla Hect/M!Dulcinea Septimus/Palamedes Sextus
Abigail Pent/F!Magnus Quinn
This couple is lovely and adorable in canon but I can't shake the feeling that they were truly meant to be a legendary Dad Lesbian/Mom Lesbian couple. Please, show this to me. Cute missing scenes with young Jeannemary & Isaac or Dad Lesbian F!Magnus & Future Dad Lesbian Gideon Nav optional. Another thing I would really love to see is their young romance or breakup or getting-back-together… or a quiet married moment… or their wedding! Gay weddings on the Fifth! So many options!
M!Camilla Hect/Palamedes Sextus, M!Camilla Hect/M!Dulcinea Septimus/Palamedes Sextus
It's not that I don't love Camilla and Dulcinea as-is, but I would dearly love to see either the iconic Sixth duo or the beautiful and tragic Sixth-Seventh trio as some very deeply in-love gay/bi guys. Palamedes and M!Cam casually sharing a bed? Young Palamedes desperately, confusedly falling for M!Dulcinea? M!Dulcinea slowly falling for Palamedes back through their exchange of letters over the years? M!Cam and M!Dulcinea quietly yearning for each other on the outskirts of the M!Dulcie/Pal dynamic? M!Cam being protective of Palamedes? So many options, all of them good! Extra bonus points if M!Dulcinea keeps exactly the same aesthetic as in canon and doesn't get masc'ed up due to being A Guy Now.
NB!Harrowhark Nonagesimus & None, NB!Silas Octakiseron & None
As with my other NB!character requests in this exchange, I'm just generally interested in seeing a nonbinary interpretation of these characters, either transmasculine or transfeminine. I'm less interested in a story about the coming-out process or choosing pronouns or worrying about rejection/bashing, and more interested in anything related to introspection or presentation or the growth of personal self-knowledge, plus how this might change or enhance these characters' arcs. If you want to go deeper I'd also love anything more introspective, in more of a gray area, about that feeling of entering young adulthood in a very religious community with some very high expectations, and starting to realize something doesn't feel... quite... "right"... or, conversely, starting to realize what does feel right as far as different ways of self-conceptualization or personal presentation (hair, clothes, etc…).
It's okay to push the boundaries of my "prejudice" DNW here if you'd like to explore different attitudes toward gender in the Nine Houses, as long as there's no over-the-top violence or rejection -- or maybe Jod's take on gender is "hell yeah necromancers, fuck your gender!" (pretty likely, all things considered), so being 16/17 and neurotic and horrid, whoever we matched on must immediately find something else non-religious to tie themselves into knots over. Along that line I'm more than okay with "I was physically created to save/lead my House, why does it feel like there's something so tangibly wrong or different about me" takes. IDK these kids are weird and depressing enough in canon, if we matched on one of them feel free to write weird and depressing stuff. Magic Space Catholic teen gender angst or whatever.
LOVE DEATH + ROBOTS
F!Liang/Yan (LD+R), Hirald/F!Snow (LD+R), Jennifer/Sonnie/F!Wes (LD+R)
I love the unique dynamics each requested ship has in canon and would love each of them even more as F/F(/F)! Missing scenes, canon scene rewrites, PWP… anything goes. As usual, I would much prefer if the F! versions of male characters remained unchanged as far as their style, interests, professions, etc., with the potential exception of F!Liang, where I would also be interested in a story diving deeper into what it's like to be the daughter of a male huli jing hunter in rural China. (Maybe her father decides it will make her better at hunting the huli jing, because as a female she shouldn't be influenced by them? Or maybe she has to fight to accompany him, or even sneaks out at night to follow him and that's how she meets Yan? Or maybe she follows a completely different vocational path due to being a woman and her meeting with Yan, and interest in engineering, comes about in a totally different way...)
Pirates of the Caribbean
F!Jack Sparrow/Elizabeth Swann, F!James Norrington/Elizabeth Swann, F!Will Turner & None, James Norrington/NB!Elizabeth Swann, NB!Elizabeth Swann & None
F!Jack Sparrow/Elizabeth Swann, F!James Norrington/Elizabeth Swann
Jack and Norrington are incredibly interesting characters just as they are in canon which is why I am even more interested in the idea of them as women, because WOW.
...I'm not sure that I have any specific prompts further than that, just WOW. I assume F!Jack might have ended up in a similar place as a woman, perhaps gaining even more notoriety as a female pirate but remaining a free-spirited pirate nonetheless? My kingdom for a rewrite of the scene where Elizabeth is taken hostage, or a sexy moment on the rum-runners' island… On the flip side, in a non-AU setting, F!Norrington might be a very different person, with the same drive and bravery and nobility but unable to pursue a Navy career (though I would be very interested in a Choice of Broadsides or Temeraire AU where she is indeed an officer after all). I'm always a fan of flip-flopping onesided attraction with N/E, where child/teen Elizabeth has a pining crush on young adult Norrington which goes away a couple of years before she grows up enough for Norrington to suddenly notice her, and words cannot describe how much more I would be into either side of that in f/f.
Part of the reason I requested these F!characters in ships with Elizabeth is because I'm also interested in Elizabeth's semi-canonical discovery and exploration of her sexuality, and in particular the sort of opposites and extremes Jack and Norrington represent for that journey in CotBP, being reinterpreted in a gay way. If you end up writing a fic that's more about Elizabeth's Big Gay Feelings and only incidentally about F!Jack or F!Norrington I'd be more than content with that too.
I am MORE than okay with you combining these ships into an OT3 and/or tossing in some F!Jack/F!Norrington if the spirit moves you, too! (...F!Will can come along as well if you like, the more the merrier….)
F!Will Turner & None
Will is SUCH an interesting character and I am obsessed with the idea of an F!Will, with the exact same backstory and dead mother and missing pirate father, being put on a ship to the Caribbean and attacked by pirates and awakening to this strange girl asking who she is, and then the whole progressing storyline… How would F!Will learn to fight? How much more surprised would Jack be, coming upon a girl in Port Royal who challenges him when he brings up the governor's daughter? How would F!Will finding her father play out? I'm fascinated by all the changes this might bring about.
OK to reference ships: F!Will/Elizabeth
James Norrington/NB!Elizabeth Swann, NB!Elizabeth Swann & None
I love Elizabeth as she is in canon, and am captivated by her arc as a woman unwilling to accept her station in life and the path she "should" take… but because of that, I'm also really interested in seeing NB!Elizabeth undergo the same journey, with some different realizations and conclusions. Perhaps NB!Elizabeth's arc starts similarly, as feeling resistant to accepting a woman's station in life, and then slowly develops into something more, especially as circumstance demands that she dress in a leftover uniform (CotBP) and then "disguise" herself as a boy (DMC). The ways in which NB and GNC people express and articulate their gender throughout history is so fascinating to me and that's part of why I am so interested in seeing NB!Elizabeth, with as much crossdressing and general gender play as you would like to throw in. And… I'm a big fan of N/E so that ship is along for the ride! There I'm mostly interested in Norrington (who, like Elizabeth, I headcanon as bi) being baffled and confused but increasingly open and turned on and eventually affirmingand maybe getting topped as part of that turned-on-affirmation. If you like.
Additional OK to reference ships: M! or F!Will/Elizabeth, M! or F!Jack/Elizabeth
The Secret Garden
F!Colin Craven & F!Dickon Sowerby & Mary Lennox (The Secret Garden), F!Colin Craven/F!Dickon Sowerby (The Secret Garden), F!Colin Craven/Mary Lennox (The Secret Garden)
Fandom DNW: Please no reference to the movie adaptation where adult Dickon dies :(
Fandom DNW exception: I know F!Dickon/Mary is also in the tagset and I'd be perfectly happy for it to be included alongside F!Colin/F!Dickon and/or F!Colin/Mary if you would like, as long as my requested relationship remains the primary focus of the story!
Love this book, love these characters, would love to see some F!Colin and F!Dickon content and explore the way that changes not only their relationships with Mary and each other but also potentially the way they relate to their families and the world around them and the different expectations placed on them as girls, especially at the intersection of gender and class. Is Mrs. Sowerby as permissive of F!Dickon running wild on the moors, or does F!Dickon have to fight harder for herself? Is F!Colin's obsession with her own perceived illness taken even more seriously, or less so? How about F!Colin's relationship with Archibald after the loss of Lilias? And I would so love to see what Mary's first impressions of F!Dickon and/or F!Colin are… I don't think she has much more experience being friends with other girls her age than with boys.
Set It Off
Stony Newsome/F!Keith Weston
Stony is my favorite character in this movie and one of my favorite woobies ever, and her budding relationship with Keith is so tender and beautiful and sad. If they were an f/f couple, especially if F!Keith kept all of M!Keith's canonical style and chivalry and gender expression and career and accidental class-blindness and investment in Black excellence and now just happened to be a woman, I would melt into a little puddle and die.
I'd be delighted with anything, from a rewrite of one of their canonical dates or the first time Stony went to Keith's house, to a scene from a date we didn't see (maybe them dancing together?), to something deeper with Stony opening up about her brother to F!Keith. Or, some kind of AU where F!Keith runs away with Stony at the end — shh I don't care that it doesn't make sense — or even some kind of finagling where Stony is hurt and arrested during the heist and is recovering while grieving and to her surprise F!Keith sticks around and truly tries to understand and be there for her? Or just porn with F!Keith going down on Stony because they are so gorgeous together.
Character Was Always A Different Gender is such a long-beloved AU of mine that I'm open to seeing any sort of take on it and as such my prompts are pretty sparse and ramble-y. Whatever you have to offer will be delightful, I am sure!
