chocolate box 2021 (!!!)

Hello Chocolatier! Happy 2021 and thanks so much for taking a gander at my letter!

To start off: if you are writing for any of the relationships I have requested, rest assured that I will be 100% into whatever you create just by virtue of getting to read a fic!! about my faves!!! The letter is here to provide extra bonus inspiration, so don't worry about reading my prompts if you already have an idea. (In fact, if there’s some concept or story you’ve been wanting to write for one of these character combos but haven’t found the excuse to or don't know if there would be an audience? Let me be your excuse and your captive audience. Yes, even for that idea. The weirder the better. Please.)

For / ship requests I enjoy subtle pre-shippy content as much as explicit PWP, and everything in between is excellent too. I won't be disappointed if there's not a kiss/an "I love you"/obvious sexual attraction/whatever.

I haven't requested art this time around but as always am SO open to art treats!

I do not have a strong tonal preference for this exchange as long as dark, sad, or horrifying content stays in line with the tone of canon. I am a simple creature that loooves happy/cute fic and crack and fluff for every fandom all the time, but if we matched on a not so happy-fuzzy relationship in a canon that doesn't pull punches with its dark and disturbing content (FMA, Golden Kamuy, Locked Tomb, LD+R), I would ALSO LOVE painful/scary/fucked up fic equally as much. Basically I'm down for anything, just please don't write me the "Cupcakes" of Wolfwalkers.

Elsewhere: I am kkoraki on tumblr and Koraki on AO3.

Obviously this show ticked a lot of boxes in my story likes! I love the whole concept, the visual aesthetic, all the random supporting characters (there is not a single character in this show I dislike but my faves are probably Michiru's baseball team, the mayor, and Gem and Melissa), Michiru's journey as a character, the various friendships that develop over the course of canon, and… I just… I like it. I like it a lot. Outside the specific prompts for my requested ship, there's so much funky stuff going on in this fictional world and I'd be delighted with anything that incorporates worldbuilding, whether that's a deeper look at the history and culture of beastmen or an exploration of modern Anima City or other beastman settlements across the world!

Hiwatashi Nazuna/Kagemori Michiru
if you don't believe me / if you don't like my plans / you mustn't tell me / how I know your face like the back of my hands

Their designs (human and beast) are INDESCRIBABLY cute and their relationship is… surprisingly complex. Something about how the show reveals and builds on the different aspects of their friendship bit by bit appealed to me very much. As someone who loves unexpected contrast/dichotomy in the dynamics that exist between people, I'm also into the interplay between their cute school friendship and Nazuna's dreams of greatness vs. their time spent recovering in the hospital together vs. the dark, powerful stuff they've both gotten tangled up in by the series' climax, with the political/religious intrigue they have to navigate and the battles they have to fight. It's so interesting to me how all that fits into one relationship, between two young women who are both so flawed and so earnest.
  • Post-canon attending a fancy political function or a celebrity party together, whether they're officially "together" yet as a couple or not (maybe a great chance to show their confused developing feelings for each other and/or them being mistaken for a couple? :D?)
  • An in-universe publication like a news article or social media posts about Nazuna that reveal fun little bits about her relationship with Michiru in passing
  • Time skip to 10+ years in the future. What are they both up to now?
  • Michiru c u d d l e s with Nazuna's big fox form
  • Flight
  • Role reversal AU where Michiru somehow was the first one "infected" and was spotted by Silver Wolf after developing the white fox form, and Nazuna later starts to manifest the tanuki form. What's different? What stays the same? How do Nazuna's dreams of being an idol and Michiru's lack of anything resembling that, plus her passion for sports and interest in working together with others play into the story's development?
  • Love confession
  • Dating in Anima City
  • A scene from the hospital, pre-canon

After watching Brotherhood years ago, I fell in deep enduring love with the aesthetics and the themes of this story, not to mention all the amazing characters. Some of what I like the most about the series in general are the themes of redemption/atonement, the sheer quantity and variety of friendships that develop over the course of the story, the existence of so many different religions and schools of thought, the discussion of ethics in science/medicine, the engagement with humanism in a world where people do terrible things, the steampunk/biopunk vibes, and the trains!

Fandom-specific DNW: I'm usually okay with / ship requests being combined into an OT3+ but specifically in this case I am not interested in Mei/Lan Fan/Maria — one or the other please! :) Also, please don't give Scar a name.

Lan Fan/Maria Ross
half awake and almost dead / keeping empty beds elsewhere / we're yet to bleed, we're yet to bleed / all the time and energy

I have no idea how this would even happen but I love both Maria and Lan Fan (two brave, badass, and confident young women with a lot riding on their shoulders) and they do have a potential connection in that Ling's crew was integral to breaking Maria out of jail and Fu took Maria to Xing... what if Maria goes back to Xing a few years later and... ??? Connection? Romance?? Hooking up in between secret missions? Casting longing looks across the room at royal parties?
  • Maria's badass soft-butchly ways (and Exotic Amestrian Appeal) make her very popular with all the ladies and courtesans in the Yao court and Lan Fan finds herself increasingly bothered/annoyed by it
  • A situation leads to Fu coming up in conversation, maybe after Maria finds out Lan Fan was related to him, since she spent so much time with him on the journey back and presumably also while getting settled in Xing.
  • Arranged marriage AU, or a fake-married/fake-dating fic
  • Fighting back to back
  • Lan Fan gives Maria some hands-on martial arts training
  • Canon divergent AU where Lan Fan is sent to escort Maria back across the desert.
  • Canon divergent AU where Maria isn't sent to Xing but rather to some hidey-hole in Amestris, which is coincidentally where Lan Fan has to go too to get automail after losing her arm, and then ??? hurt/comfort and sorrow and feeling like you can't help anyone like this and falling desperately in love???
  • My vision for this ship usually involves Maria ending up in Xing long-term as a liaison or ambassador or something similar, but if you can think of a way to switch it up with Lan Fan returning to Amestris for some reason, perhaps with Ling on a politically motivated visit after Roy becomes fuhrer, or on a secret mission to gather information, and then being thrown into a working relationship with Maria who is still in Amestris, I would love that too!

Lan Fan/Mei Chang
you said, remember that life is / not meant to be wasted / we can always be chasing the sun / so fill up your lungs and just run / but always be chasing the sun

Mei and Lan Fan are two of my favorite characters in FMA and the rivalry-to-respect dynamic in this relationship is so great! I like Mei’s skill, devotion, and passionate enthusiasm, and Lan Fan’s cleverness, loyalty, and impulsivity. I think it’s interesting how similar they are in their courage and devotion to their families and clans. I'm mostly interested in post-canon fic here since it's only at the end that they become able to actually interact without trying to kill each other… but what feelings might develop after that?
  • Post-canon Mei doesn't know how to deal with her new crush on Lan Fan and obsessively consults her romance novels and manhua to try to figure out how to deal.
  • Lan Fan finds Mei's high quality imported yuri collection… up to you whether the joke is that it's also VERY EXPLICIT or it being the most OTT moeblob schoolgirls sparkling at each other whenever they touch hands and then blushing for 15 pages over it with no plot at all
  • Mei travels for most of her teenage years then comes back to Xing as an adult and is going to participate in court life so Ling assigns Lan Fan to be her guard and Lan Fan is like, "oh no the annoying twelve-year-old is hot now"
  • For [Reasons???], Lan Fan and Mei have to go undercover in a different country or the court of a different clan and for [Reasons???] Lan Fan has to be disguised as a lady and Mei as her bodyguard and Then Situational Romance
  • I love the idea of Mei and Lan Fan becoming Secret Mission Buddies post-canon and working to support Ling as he ascends the throne, and feelings start to develop. Maybe at some point a mission goes wrong and they have to fight their way out of a sticky situation with a powerful rival clan, and they're both injured or trapped or something equally dramatic and think they're dying and so one of them tearfully confesses but then Ling's army or other guards Deus Ex Machina in and then they have to live with it.
  • Fending off trouble during the journey back to Xing
  • Role swap AU, Mei is Ling's precocious, boisterous second guard and Lan Fan is the solemn and dedicated Chang heir
  • Flowers
  • Trust

Scar & Scar's Brother
am I built to survive? / fading colors melt the skies / shifting winds, sand storms of time / I am yours, you are mine

If you write anything, literally anything, about these two I'll be happy. While I would love something either sweet or a little bit charged from when they were growing up, if you want to do something more sad about Scarbro being dead, I'm always down to be hit with some angst. Or as kind of a third option, this relationship is unique for me in the sense that I am just as interested in canon-timeline or post-canon fic that is nominally "about Scar" or about Scar and some other characters but is really on a deeper level about Scar and his brother, as I am in standard fic about them both being alive and interacting or Scar having Sad Feelings specifically about Scarbro.
  • Platonic soulmate/soulmark AU
  • Going to school together — did they go to a school taught by priests, or an Amestrian public school, or were they homeschooled, or something else? Or was Scarbro one of those gifted kids that ends up needing to not go to school, while Scar did?
  • Paradoxically, young Scar frequently has to defend his older brother from people making fun of him, trying to beat him up, etc. Be interesting if you showed the development from maybe being young and fighting another kid who tried to beat Scarbro up —> being a young adult and uncomfortably trying to defend Scarbro from people who don't understand or trust him.
  • Family dynamics when both of them were teenagers… irritability, their similarly withdrawn natures, Scarbro's increasing fascination with alchemy and (what I interpret as) willingness/desire to challenge the rules of the religion he grew up within vs. Scar studying and training and growing into the priesthood at the same time
  • AU where they both survive
  • Scar at the beginning of the pre-canon timeskip, alone with his brother's notes and his brother's arm and his own grief
  • Something that takes a hard thoughtful look at the difficulties Scar is going to have post-canon re: his rejected name and priesthood, his use of (what basically amounts to) alchemy, his vigilante murder quest that appears to go against Ishvalan teachings and probably made a lot of other Ishvalan refugees' lives worse at least from their point of view, etc… and kind of frames it all through the lens of his feelings about Scarbro, and who Scarbro was as a person, and how he himself as well as his research and direct choice to sacrifice himself for Scar impacts all this.

Scar/Tim Marcoh
O, solitude of longing / where love has been confined / come healing of the body / come healing of the mind

I am so into this fraught, painful, kinda-fucked-up-kinda-...hopeful? relationship as it slowly develops throughout the story, and would adore any fic that continues to develop it into something more. My favorite takes on this relationship don't try to push it into a straightforward forgiveness or redemption or rivals-to-friends trajectory, recognizing instead that it’s a lot messier and involves more grieving and anger and slow reconciliation, especially from Scar's end, so that sort of mess is what I'm looking for here whether the romantic/sexual feelings end up being fully realized or not. Something bittersweetly hopeful or something darker focusing on all the, uh, obvious issues here would be equally welcome! The one thing I'm not comfortable with for this ship is 100% played-straight romantic fluff (think proposals, marriage, saying "I love you", friends encouraging them to get together) unless you're writing a modern AU with absolutely no extant parallels to the genocide.
  • Road trip fic, always more road trip fic (during the canon timeskip)
  • What happens in between the Promised Day and actually making it to Ishval to start the reconstruction? What is Scar's recovery process like? Do they go to Briggs? Do they stay in Central working with Scar's master? More road tripping? Does Marcoh go check up on his town? How does Scar stay under the radar enough so that nobody finds out he's alive?
  • Multiple cats begin to adopt Scar while he is cohabitating with Marcoh post-canon
  • Cooking as an expression of affection :3
  • Hurt/comfort, with either one of them OR BOTH being hurted and/or comforted
  • Mistaken for a couple
  • I generally perceive Scar as someone who perhaps hasn't had many (or any) romantic/sexual relationships/encounters in his life due to having been first a monk and then a traumatized serial killer on a single-minded murder mission, so I'm very into the additional weirdness and complications that might add to an already complicated dynamic
  • Oh no, there is only one bed!

This is like nothing I've ever read/watched before! Between the history, and the unapologetic unforgiving barrage of media references, and the homoeroticism, and the military history, and the intricate costume design, and the stupid shenanigans, and the lovingly-exploring-the-wilderness-of-Hokkaido, and the hunting, and the careful research into and description of Ainu culture, and the cooking, and the eating… I don't even know how to describe this story, but I adore it. Maybe being unable to describe it is why I adore it.

Asirpa & Retar
my heart still beats and my skin still feels / my lungs still breathe and my mind still fears / but we're running out of time / all the echoes in my mind cry

Asirpa is hands down my favorite character in this series and her relationship with Retar is a) badass; b) iddy; c) wreaking havoc on my emotions. Retar, besides being a giant fuckoff wolf and therefore automatically awesome, is a fascinating representation of everything from the man-in-nature/man-vs.-nature elements of the series, to Asirpa's increasingly complex relationship with and feelings about Wilk, to the Ainu way of life in a new and changing world where Asirpa self-defines as "a new kind of Ainu woman" and the question there of what's going to be lost and what is going to survive. So if we matched on this, please write me something lovely or disturbing about these two together!
  • A moment from Retar's puppyhood
  • Working together to bring down a deer, bear, or other large prey
  • Asirpa in the aftermath of Retar leaving her
  • Hunkering down together after being caught in a winter storm
  • Asirpa has a dream where she's a wolf out on the mountains with Retar and his pack
  • Retar randomly popping up to join Sugimoto&Shiraishi&Asirpa around the campfire or other quiet unexpected moments
  • Retar giving Asirpa a proper introduction to his pups
  • Drunk!Asirpa interacting with Retar
  • This prompt is just straight crack, but AU where Asirpa is a wolf being raised to be A New Kind Of Hokkaido Wolf by her dad wolf who came across the ice from Russia, and on a hunting trip they find a little human (Retar) and adopt him and raise him, some reverse Julie of the Wolves type thing (also fitting because this series is in many ways just an adult Julie of the Wolves/My Side of the Mountain)

Hanazawa Yuusaku/Ogata Hyakunosuke
and in my best behavior / I am really just like him / look beneath the floorboards / for the secrets I have hid

This ship just fucks me up in the best way possible. Full disclosure: I didn't get what the big deal was about Ogata until his family backstory flashback and specifically his interactions with Yuusaku, and then I wasn't just interested, I was hooked. There's a strange incongruity, to me, between what Ogata says/thinks he is and who he actually appears to be in many of his actions and the fucked up experiences that formed him as a child and young man, and his relationship with Yuusaku brings this to the fore. In addition to the intriguing dynamic between them I'm suuuper interested in seeing more of Yuusaku specifically, who is such a sweet, principled oddball in the brief glimpses we get of him alive… in contrast to his terrifying ghostly presence in Ogata's fever dreams!
  • After the disappointing outcome of the brothel trip, Ogata takes matters into his own hands (yeah idgaf that this is probably the most obvious scenario for them I would read it 500 times)
  • Yuusaku initiates an inappropriate type/amount of physical intimacy in his continuing quest to be closer to his brother
  • Modern AU where Dad Hanazawa is a very important business mogul (...if you want to keep Ogata murdering him at some point still, not necessary but that'd be kinda cool ngl)
  • Mm, I'm hesitant to prompt this because I don't know if it's even close to historically accurate, but a canon divergent AU where Ogata is raised in or near the household starting from either very young childhood or as a pre-teen — not recognized as a son of the family or treated any better, but kept close enough that he and Yuusaku have kind of an experience of growing up together.
  • More odd, intense morality debates along the lines of canon: Ogata's thoughts and commentary on Yuusaku as flagbearer, Yuusaku's thoughts and commentary on what Ogata says about himself… obsessed with that and what those conversations reveal about both characters involved
  • Sharing food/handfeeding

Hijikata Toshizou/Nagakura Shinpachi
someday we might learn to tell the truth / we might even find the fountains of our youth / and we all needed something real, we all need proof / but I just wanna be closer to you

My knowledge of Japanese history is scattered all over the place and I barely know anything factual about the Shinsengumi but that's not gonna stop me from loving these guys! There's something about two older characters sharing a bond that goes far back into history, before most of the other characters were alive, that we don't even see the origin of, that gets me every time. That scene with the two of them "becoming" their past selves, when Nagakura finds Hijikata in prison… JUST FUCK ME UP. And they're both lethal. I'm obsessed with the care and absolute trust between these two and would love to see it explored!
  • Pre-canon or canon timeline: Casually sharing a bed in what's meant to be a platonic manner but then…
  • A pre-canon night of drinking and debauchery that predictably leads to fooling around. If you want to spin this out into more, maybe one of them still remembers it years in the future during canon timeline and assumes the other one doesn't or just considered it a brojob or w/e the historically appropriate excuse would be, but the other one DOES remember and DIDN'T consider it to be that and eventually it comes to light and then they bang! Again!
  • Any kind of contrived situation that will allow me to luxuriate in Old Men Pining. Maybe one can pass the other a cup of tea or something.
  • Outsider POV on their tastefully discreet relationship and/or dumb mutual pining from someone awful (I say this in the absolute most loving and adoring way) such as Shiraishi or Kadokura
  • Fighting side by side, each anticipating the other's every move and acting accordingly to rain down a storm of destruction! (Pre-canon or canon timeline.)
  • Something sad about Nagakura's feelings of guilt and isolation in the long years before Hijikata escaped and came for him again. The aspect of their relationship where even though the level of trust/devotion on both sides is the same, Nagakura seems to feel at least some doubt if not guilt and potential uncertainty of Hijikata's feelings toward him while Hijikata seems… really chill with Nagakura, not blaming him for any past actions/choices and more focused on their shared purpose and goal (though could there be some feeling of regret or abandonment there?), is something I'm interested in seeing more of. Hurts so good.
  • Canon typical shenanigans focused on one trying to make/buy the other one a thoughtful gift or special dinner or something.

I got into this fandom because I was promised lesbians and loyalty kink in space… and I was SO not disappointed omg. While I am obsessed with the worldbuilding and general aesthetic of this series and want to understand it further/see other people's takes on it (the more horrifying the better), I am also really into the weirdest setting change AUs you're physically able to generate, because the characters are the best part of this series for me and I believe these character dynamics will carry through to anything! If you don't write an AU what I liked the most about canon was the post-apocalyptic feel taken Up To Eleven, the body horror, the viscerality and scariness of the visuals, the unshakable feeling that there's definitely some kind of epic BoE-and-Cohort-centric space opera happening offscreen, the HtN canon AUs, the intense dysfunctionality inherent to pretty much every important interpersonal relationship that didn't die off in the first half of GtN, the… knight/lady energy…??, the ensemble cast, and the horrible tragedy and doom that awaits everyone in that happy little ensemble cast. :')

Fandom specific note: The way these books are written is quite singular for me and I'd prefer something written in your own choice of style/voice over something that sounds like canon. Also while I have read HtN, I have not yet gotten my hands on the paperback of GtN so if any of my prompts, particularly for the Second, unknowingly contradicts something in the extra content that's why.

This fandom is very special to me because I am obsessed with the necro/cav dynamic to an unhealthy degree and therefore a lot of the prompt ideas I have apply equally to both the relationships I am requesting… so in order to avoid having half my relationship-specific prompts be direct copy-pastes of each other, here THOSE are:
  • The "one flesh, one end" vow/ceremony… it's probably handled very differently on different Houses and I want to see how.
  • Daemon AU (both the relationships I requested are very Soul Energy based in different ways, and I'm suuuper interested to know how that messes with a daemon, as well as how the presence of daemons would play into the worldbuilding more generally)
  • AU where necromancers aren't extremely irradiated sorta mutant humans/humanoids (which I think is meant to be the canon implication?) but are, rather, extremely irradiated sentient cats. Or… catlike eldritch beings, like Mogget in the Abhorsen series. That sort of thing. Where did they come from? How do you explain them? I don't know and you don't need to explain them. They're problematic cats who can talk and have magic powers. Give me this crack.
  • Very dutifully huddling for warmth on some random planet
  • That battlefield intimacy thing? Where each perfectly anticipates the other’s next movement and acts in accordance and you get a beautiful, terrifyingly efficient war machine. That thing.
  • Soulmark AU, they have each other's soulmark. Ugh similar to daemons, wouldn't anything related to soulmarks be just exceptionally screwed up in this universe? I love it. Please show it to me.
  • Genderswap AU where both characters were Always [Different Gender].
  • Groundhog day loop, specifically with the necromancer going back again and again to try to change things or maybe experiencing weird AUs a la HtN
  • And in general I love the whole GtN ensemble of characters, so ensemble fic that just happens to focus on one of my requested relationships would make me super happy too. My favorite houses besides the ones I've requested are the Fourth and the Ninth.

Colum Asht & Silas Octakiseron
in search of a soft sound from another planet / in search of a quiet place to lay this to rest / striving for goodness while the cruel men win / there's no part of me left that can feel or hear it

I am 500% obsessed with how spectacularly fucked up this relationship is and would happily read 300 words of them just sitting in a room together. "Long-suffering holy knight bound in service to the self-righteous holy terror of a 16-year-old uncle who he was essentially created for, and then helped raise, also both of them think this is super normal" is such a… uh… unique and beautiful thing, and that's WITHOUT the soul siphoning. Relationships that through their very existence display/explore oppressive social systems and complicated interpersonal power dynamics have always been catnip to me and this one is no exception. There's so much interesting stuff going on with the Eighth in general, from their necromantic specialty to the (intensely legalistic and repressed) religious aspect to the extremely questionable scientific ethics and the way those aspects interweave, and these guys are a perfect study of all that in one awful little package. Also Silas is somehow the most hilarious and most tragic character in the book to me because objectively/situationally everything about who he is is so sad and messed up but everything he says or does to anyone who he doesn't respect (...everyone) is so funny. Oh no. (Most of my prompts for this relationship are about the sadness and codependency but if you think you can pull off fluff in a setting or canon divergent AU, go ahead and try, it'd heal me.)
  • More weird domesticity along the lines of the room-cleaning and tea-taking and hair-braiding we get canonically
  • If you feel like worldbuilding, can you please… explain the uncle/nephew thing to me? I mean broadly: how family works on the Eighth (fucked uppedly I presume, but can I have details), where babies come from (the smattering of information we have like the holy-knights imagery and the disdain for the Sixth practice of resurrection purity and the eugenics and the "ten years" comment all seem to imply something unnatural going on there), obviously although they all call each other "Brother" there's at least an awareness of biological familial relationship but… is it some kind of The Giver or Houston Houston Do You Read thing or...? And how does it all tie into their doctrine/theology? I just think about this too much it gets me right in the Scientific Ethics
  • More about how the relationship between and purpose of one's body and one's soul is seen on the Eighth, and how their concept of the ideal necro/cav dynamic follows from that.
  • Baby teeth
  • Covenant
  • Arthuriana-flavored fantasy AU. The knight imagery and Christian themes are right there!
  • Like everyone who's interested in this relationship, I think, I am very fascinated/scared by the question of what Silas's childhood was like… but at the same time I'm also extremely interested in Colum as a child/teenager and how he became the adult we see on-page, as well as how the way he was taught and brought up later shaped his influence on Silas.
  • Tamsyn Muir offhandedly calls the Eighth the Anti House, and well, they basically are, so. Of course I want a batshit crack fandom AU along the lines of Silas Ruins Fandom For Everyone. Or rather he thinks/hopes he's ruining it for everyone but in actuality is unsuccessful in doing much of anything besides making people block him. (The more of the ensemble cast that can be crammed in if you write this prompt, the better.)

Judith Deuteros/Marta Dyas
you can't live without the fire / it's the heat that makes you strong / 'cause you're born to live and fight it all the way

Someone needs to explain to me how such minor supporting characters can exude such massive "if I saw this character in person I know she would be the hottest duty-bound lesbian in uniform I've ever seen" energy. Because that is the energy that pours off both of them every time they're so much as mentioned… it's like... GtN: "Marta was sitting in the corner polishing her rapier" me: *eyes emoji* "WAS she?" Anyway I'm so into their whole visual aesthetic, Marta's expertise and practicality and absolute loyalty to Judith, Judith's tragic unshaken commitment to following the process and regulations until it's way too late, the repression, the whole commanding officer/subordinate thing (look I was really into Age of Sail back in the day), the age difference (!!!), the meta aspect of them being these high ranking soldiers in what's basically The Empire, they are the BEST and I want MORE.
  • I'm obsessed with the necromantic specialization of the Second as it was described because that is terrifying, so I want to see it in action.
  • Choice of Broadsides setting AU — basically it's Age of Sail only the gender roles are switched for no given reason so the women run around fighting the Napoleonic Wars and having tropey relationships with each other. Or, for similar reasons, a Temeraire setting AU. Judith as captain of a ship (or dragon) and Marta her loyal lieutenant! Yes PLEASE! ...or a Treasure Planet setting AU… you get the idea…
  • Aftermath of Marta vs. Cam. Hurt/comfort with weird vibes because of the circumstances.
  • Some pre-canon space-opera-feeling episode taking place on a Cohort mission or tour of duty.
  • Cohort parties
  • Judith having a MASSIVE HUGE pre-teen crush on Marta ideally before they're matched to each other
  • If you're interested in worldbuilding I'd love to see more exploration of how the Second House in general relates, politically, to the Third, Fourth, and/or Fifth, particularly because of Judith's childhood friendship (? perhaps too strong a word) with the Third scions.
  • AU where Marta also lives and is extracted by BoE along with the rest of the motley crew that ended up with them in canon

Liang/Yan
so don't turn away now / I am turning in revolution / these are the scars that silence carved / on me

What caught my attention in "Good Hunting" was the growth of the relationship between Liang and Yan from scared children meeting by chance to adults struggling against the weight of the world together, bound together by guilt, obligation, and a sense of mutual understanding.

Yan’s arc, and her ultimate fate, is this terrifying mixture of violation and empowerment. No matter how Liang’s work may have helped her reclaim some semblance of her old power, I feel like the horror of her new body and the denial of her agency is going to outweigh that reclamation for a long time, maybe forever, and though it's not explicitly discussed Yan seems painfully conscious of this. There's also their whole shared history as the daughter of a huli jing and the son of the hunter who killed that huli jing, that just serves to symbolize the whole framework of the system that traps and hurts both Liang and Yan…

I haven't read the Liu story this short is based on and therefore would prefer that the characterization, worldbuilding, backstory, etc. all come from the animated short!
  • Liang patches Yan up after a rough night post-canon; loving description of Liang's gentleness and competence + the intricate mechanisms of Yan's new body welcome.
  • Related — Liang falling into a domestic/caretaking/"home" role for Yan, becoming the person she can return to throughout everything.
  • I love the steampunk world so anything that plays around with that, and with Liang's interest in machines and invention, would be stellar. Going on the dark side the way canon did is completely fine but not necessary.
  • The short focuses very much on Liang as the POV character, which isn't a bad thing, but I would be into something Yan-centric as well, especially dealing with her feelings after her nonconsensual modification and rape. Bring on the darkness, the terror, the rage (especially if some of it is directed at Liang, justifiably or not), the body horror/dysmorphia, what this does to her as a huli jing and not just as a human woman… she goes through so many horrific things and deserves to feel about them. I don't feel that we were supposed to see the story's conclusion as a happy ending for her really and a story that grapples with this and the wider societal implications of what happened to her would be amazing if you're up for writing darkness.
  • Something that explores their (very different) relationships with their parents, the heritage passed down to each one of them, and how they embrace or reject different aspects of that heritage. Also, Yan getting to grieve her mother and her feelings about Liang immediately thereafter — that was something I missed in the short.
  • The brief moments we see of Liang and Yan growing up before they're separated and go to the city are so atmospheric and beautiful and I would like to read a story set during that time, maybe with some shenanigans in the village?
  • No need to write or reference this if it's not your thing, since I love Liang and Yan just the way they are in canon, but I'd be very interested in a story about transmasculine Liang and/or transfemine Yan (I was sort of envisioning it as one or the other, but writing it out like this I think both together could be interesting too), and how that aspect of identity would blend with the themes and plot points already present in their story arcs.
  • Guilt and reconciliation
  • Tentative first kiss
  • A moment of intimacy: Yan touching Liang's hands, Liang feeding Yan, Liang helping Yan dress/undress, one of them casually pinning back the other's hair, a kiss on the leg/foot...

⭑・゚゚・*:༅。.。༅:*゚:*:✼🐺 Wolfwalkers ☘️✼:*゚:༅。.。༅:*・゚゚・⭑

The release of this movie was THE blazing highlight of 2020 for me; I've been following the visual development, concept trailers, snippets of characterization/story, and everything else the team dropped online since 2015 and yet somehow the finished product managed to surpass all my wildest hopes and dreams. There are the obvious, beautiful hallmarks of Cartoon Saloon's Ireland films — mystical, lusciously detailed landscapes glowing with color, loving attention to Irish folklore and history, the conflict and attraction between the world of the wild/faerie and the world of "society", the complex relationship between a Sad Dad who just wants the best for his kiddo — and then there is the wholly unique thing that is Robyn/Mebh. :D

Fandom-specific DNW: explicit sexual content; any non-canon het ships including Bill/Moll

Mebh Óg MacTíre/Robyn Goodfellowe
windy whistles sew the hearts on / find the secret way / see the traces, hiding places now

I love them both so much: Robyn's journey from an eager kid excited to hunt the wolves like a good Englishman to a wolfwalker herself who'll do anything for Mebh, and the way Mebh's confidence and wildness disguise her sensitive, deeply feeling side that longs and fears for her mother and family of wolves. Their friendship and the dynamic between them is at once gentle and intense in a way that I want to see so much more of!
  • A quiet moment in the woods
  • Fun with Merlyn — and I'd be interested in some backstory on where Robyn got him and learned how to fly him, too. Could he have been her mum's? Could she and Mebh bond over that?
  • Adventures at night in wolf form, maybe hunting or exploring a cave or going to the beach (who knows where their travels will take them?)
  • Post-canon: the pack meets more wolfwalkers! Your OCs, show me them!
  • Something more bitter than sweet that assumes a historically accurate story progression post-canon, with wolves still slowly being eliminated from Ireland, and how Mebh and Robyn endure through the years together.
  • I know it's a bit anachronistic, but Oliver Cromwell getting yeeted off a waterfall and dying was anachronistic too so! Because of the concept art of "boy Robyn", from years ago when the English protagonist of this movie was conceptualized as a boy, I'd be interested in an AU that takes some of the elements of that concept art and re-conceptualizes Robyn as a trans girl. I think her canon arc would be SO compelling with that in addition to her wolfwalker coming-out.
  • Either Mebh or Robyn realizing not long after the story concludes that she has feelings for her friend, and trying to demonstrate these feelings without words in various and perhaps increasingly absurd ways. (Or both of them doing it at once and not noticing it.)
  • Alternatively, Mebh and Robyn remain friends throughout their teens and either don't develop or don't realize romantic feelings for each other until adulthood when their circumstances have drastically changed. What does that look like?
  • If you want to go more out there, this ship feels made for a pirate AU! Mebh is the cabin girl on her mum's pirate ship while Robyn is making passage on the Navy ship her dad captains, something like that, and then…?
